Obituary : Mrs Buxton, mother of Mr Sydney Buxton, Under-Secretary for the Colonies. Her death was sudden. MORE WITHDRAWALS OF GOLD.

£701,000 in gold was withdrawn from the Bank of England during the week.

A man named David McCullock was badly injured on the head in the railway accident. His sister is missing, and is supposed to be burned to death. His little niece was killed. They were all on their way to Australia. One woman was burnt to death under the engine, in the presonce of her injured husband. The wife of Sir Donald Stewart was among those injured. The signalman admits ha was asleep, having been tired out by watching at the death bed of his child the night Defore. He asked to be relieved from duty, but the stationmaster refused.

NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING CO.

The New Zealand Shipping Company will not pay a dividend. The profits for the year amounted to £33,300, which will be carried forward. The Company has purchased a 7000-ton cargo steamer.
