LECTURE BY MR C. O. MONTROSE.
"BATTLEFIELDS OP NEW ZEALAND."
The announcement that Mr C. O. Montrose was t6 lecture on " Tho Battlefields of New Zealand," brought together a most appreciative audience in the Alexandra Hall on Monday night. The subject was ono on which tho lecturer could speak with authority, for ho had followed the colors throughout the war. Tho lecturer in a graphic manner sketchod the war from the beginning, giving details of tho principal engagements in Taranaki and tho Waikuto. Some of his descriptions of these battles were splendid word pictures, and were ro ceived with many tokens of approval by tho audience. The locturo lasted an hour and a half, and during the whole of that period, Mr Montroso hold the rapt attention of his auditors. It is Mr Montrose's intention to proceed now to Auckland, which was > the principal field of his long journalistic career. In that city Mr Montrose was well-known as editor of The Southern Cross, and in later days as editor of the Observer.
