AUCKLAND ANNIVERSARY DAY. Auckland, January 29. Tho day is being observed as a general holiday, in celebration of the anniversary of the colony. The weather is beautiful. There i 3 a slight breeze and smooth water. The principal attractions are the regatta and Takapnna races. AN IMPUDENT DEMAND.Wellington, January 29. At a meeting of the Trades and Labor Council last night, the following resolutian was passed : "That the Secretary be instructed to inform the Govornmont that this Council claims the right of the Trades Unions to be consulted in regard to tho selection and appointment of Labor representatives to the Legislative Council."
