! ; ♦ . . 1 [FROM OUR RESIDENT AGENT.] January 13. — A meeting of the Stratford League was held last evening, when it was decided to arrange for a dinner at which tho Native Minister and party will be entertained on their arrival from Auckland via the East Road. Thero was a slight disturbance in the street last evening, one gentleman's nose coming into collision' with another gentleman's fist. The nose and tho fist appeared in Court-lhis morning, and an investigation of tho "circumstances attending their Contact of the preceding evening resulted in tha owner of the nose beconling'a poorer man by the sum of ten shillings. The proprietor of tho fist was able to bring, satisfactory evidence to show that aclfdefence was the motive that prompted an otherwise unseemly proceeding, and ho waa accordingly discharged. The whole affair was redolent of beer. : ' The latest addition to tho ranks of our tradesmen 1 is' Mr Payne, a practical watch • j maker of large experience, who has started business in Curtis' Buildings. - ' '
