COACHING ACCIDENT NEAR MARTON.
THIRTEEN PERSONSPRECIPITATED INTO THE ROAD. A' most, distressing coach accident occurred-* near Jilartori at 5 o'clock on Tuesday night. Just before that hour a party set out in Mclndoe's coach with tho object of driving to Wanganui to hear Mr H. M. Stanley, but they had proceeded only about three inilos when tho accident occurred. It took place near the corner of tho Bonny Glen Road, and ' it was caused by tho horses shying and taking fright at a roadman's wheelbarrow ; the leadon* 'turned suddenly and 'started off at -a right anglo.'to' the way the coach was turned, with the result that the wheels became locked' and the conveyance was ov- rhirned immediately. Amongst tho passengers riding outsido tho coach wero Messrs Tennaut, Simpson, T. T. Watt, Hudson, W. H. Warren, " and Chancy (tho Marton Postmaster), all of whom wero moro or loss injured. Mr Warren, Mr Hudson, and tho driver of the coach fared tho worst. Theso three received tho full weight of the coach upon them n,(ter they had been thrown to tho ground. Tho former is Buffering from one broken rib and a severe contusion on tho leg at tho side of tho knee ; Mr Hudson's and tho driver's injuries were not readily discovered, but it iv feared that they also may prove to have broken ribs. Of tho otherß, Mr Simpson is bruised about tho limb?, whilst Mr Tonnant, we believe, fallingupon another passenger, Mr Beckett, received bnl slight injury. The riders inside the coach consisted of five ladies and three or four gentlemen, all of whom escaped, entirely unhurt; among the former were Mrs Simpson, Mrs Hudson, and one or two Missos Murray. Thero wero 13 or 1 4 passengors in all on tho coach . A medical man was soon on tho scene, and the sufferers wero immediately taken back to Marton.
