The Canadian Government has refused, | at all events for the present, tbo proposal that members of the Dominion Parliament should receive an increased indemnity on account of the length of the session just ended. All members now receive 1000 dols (£200) for the session, whatever be its length, and seeing that the late session was of about twice the usual duration Dominion legislators have gone home with the belief that they have a distinct grievance. The method of the payment of this sessional indemnity is worthy of note. Members draw their 7 dols. (28s per day) as the session proceeds, and claim the balance at the end of the session less a deduction of 8 dols. (32b) for every day not spent in the Chamber or in service upon some Committee. This session the 7 dols. a day allowance brought many of tho less regular members to the end of their 1000 dols., and the whips are said to have found it difficult to keep these unfortunate ones "in line," as they saj' in Canada.
