" ANTI-INFIDEL CRUSADE."
LECTURES BY MR ISAAC SELBY. Mr Selby delivered the third of a series of lecture-* i.i tho Alexandra Hall, on. M svhiy night, his subject on this occasion boing •' U. 11. Spurgeon and C. Bradlaugh, or two great men of our times compared and contrasted." His Worship the Mayor presided. The proceedings wore opened with ateuiQ and prayer. Mr Selby began his lecture by pointing out that Bradlaugh considered himself the creature of circumstances, whilst Spurgeon believed that thero was a divinity which shaped our ends rough hew them how we would. Under those beliefs tho two men had worked in the spiritual wprld, and the succes of Spurgoon, and the failure of Bradlaugh, was proof that the true teaching of Christianity was what the world desired. Tbe speaker, however, gave great credit to Bradlaugh for his political work, in which he was successful as a reformer of abuses. It was in his political life that the real greatness of Charles Bradlaugh was found, for then he worked as a true friend of suffering humanity. The speaker referred to the many acts of both men, and concluded his lecture about 9 o'clock. Two questions were asked the speaker at the close of the lecture, both of which he answered satisfactorily. The proceedings then closed in the usual way. T&E LAST LECTURE entitled " Tho Footprints of the Creator; or is there a God ? " will be delivered this (Tuesday) evening.
