Melbourne, October 7. Influenza is still prevalent, and up to the end of September thirty deaths were reported from it. The Federation Bill lias been under discussion in the Legislative Assembly. In chapter 6, " New States," in clause 1 the provision inserted by the House on the motion of Sir Bryan O'Loghlen excepting New Zealand from admission to the Federation, was rejected. Sydney, October 7. The Excelsior Building-society, which recently suspended payment, will resume operations, having a surplus of £107,000.
