SALE OF WANAKA.
MrN. King, this (Wednesday) afternoen cold the hull of the steamer Wanaka as she now lies, for £10, to Mr T. Oldfield. The auction took place at the scene. The bidding started at £5 and ran up to £10.
A long discussion took place at the Harbour Board meeting this (Wednesday) morning, on the question of effecting repairs to the Board's dredge, in order that the work of sand lifting could be resumed at the works. It was stated that the boilers needed overhauling. The Board finally adjourned till this afternoon, when they wore to meet the foreman and obtain information from him as to the repairs necessary to the dredge, and tho time it would take to effect them. An inebriate was convicted in the Police Court this (Wednesday) morning, and ordered to pay coata, 4a. A prohibition order was issued against John Crozier on Tuesday, on his own application. A Press telegram states that the Collector of Rates for the Borough of Maaterton has been instructed to stay proceedings in certain casos whore poverty exists. Mr Loughnan, editor of the New Zealand Tunes, is now on a visit to New Plymouth, and will remain here for a few days. A special meeting of the Harbour Board was held this (Wednesday) morning, when Mr E. M. Smith, M.H.R., explained that the Government had put £3000 on tho supplementary estimates to dredge tho New Plymouth Harbor. He added that the Government had not decided yet whether the sum should be spent under tho department of the Minister of Publicworks or that of the Minister of Marine. He also advocated that someone should be sent down to work the Departments up in the matter, and to proceed oa to Oamaru to hasten the equipment of the dredge. The majority of tho members of the Board pointed oat that the Board had not been notified by the Government about the £3000, although the Chairman had expressly written down. After discussion, the Board decided to write to tho Minister of Public Works and Marino for J information, and pointing out the urgency of the work, and also to tho Promier reminding him of tho promise to dredgo 'which ho raurlo to tho chairman of the Board at Jubilee time. Tho debate, a report of which will appear to-morrow, was a long one. Mr Smith at tho Harbour Board meeting thin (Wednesday) morning stated that the Oamaru dredge had a capacity of 200 tons, and could lift 1,000 tons a day. Trophies won at the road race competitions will be presented at a general meeting of the Pioneer. 'Cycling Club this (Wednesday) evening. The question .of imported v. colonial cement was discussed at the Harbor Board meeting this (Wednesday) morning. Mesßra "Wilson & Co., ot Auckland, wrote asking the . Board to give their colonial cement a trial, an I adding that it was in extensive use in tho colony. The majority of tho members of the Board wore, how over, averse to experimenting with tho colonial cement at tho harbor, and prcforred to effect all repairs .with tho imported Portland, which had boon used all along at tho hurbor. Those interested are reminded of tho Cycling Club meeting this (Wednesday) ■ evening. ' ' The adjustment of tho accounts between tho Taranaki and Strutford County Councils was commenced this (Wednesday) afternoon. Messrs Marchant (chairman), McGregor (member), and Mr W. G. Malone represented the Stratford County.
