MEETING OF CREDITORS.
Tho first meeting of creditors in tho estate of George Stockman wae hold in the Council Chambers at 2 o'clock on Friday. Present : Fred Stockman, E. llopkinßon, F. Joseph, and A. Standish. Tho Assignee reported on tho position of tho estate. The bankrupt, examined by Mr Standish, sai I : 1 paid £400 for three horses — Endymion, Mai J of Honour, and Prudence, £150 for Shan O'Noil, £112 for Harlequin, £56 for Marvel, £25 for Beasie, and £35 for Otawa, also £50 for Taxation. I sold Otawa for £250, and with that monoy and £212 I borrowed from Mr Hopkinson and £50 from Mr Dan Bayly I paid for the first four horses. I earned £150, and was paid £96 for negotiating native lands for Messrs D. Bayly and Peat. I have had no other transactions in native lands that paid me anything. The most of my time has been occupied in negotiating for the Mangapapa Block at Mokau for a lease to myself. Mr Hopkinßon and Mr Sheppoe assisted me with money, to bo repaid when I got the leaso. My impression is that they were to be repaid either in cash when I obtained the lease, or they would have an interest in the lease. I obtained a promise to lease from some of the owners, and I applied for a certificate to be issued under tho Native Land Act 1886 to enable me to complete negotiations with the natives. The judge issued a certificate to Mr Neville Walker at my request. There was an agresmont made between ub of which Walker promised to give me a copy, but he never did. The other horses were under bill of sale ; when they were sold I did not get any benefit from them. The statement referred to in the private depositions will be published on Monday.
