DEATH OF REV. FREDERICK THATCHER.

The death is announced at Bakewell, in his seventy-seventh year, of the Rev. Frederick Thatcher, prebendary of Lichfield. The late prebendary commenced his ministerial work as a mi?sionary at Auckland, New Zealand, under the first Bishop of the colony (Dr. Selwyn), by whom he was ordained in 1848. - While in New Zealand, he formed a close personal acquainI tance with Dr. Selwyn, who appointed him, ! in succession, incumbent of St. Matthew's, Auckland, and of St. Paul's, Wellington. Upon Dr. Selwyn's translation to the See of Lichfield, he became the Bishop's secretary. When a young man, Mr Thatcher, followed the profession of an architect, and, during his visit to New Plymouth in 1844, designed St. Mary's Church, and the Colonial Hospital, now the Old Men's Home. Prebendary Thatcher leaves an only son, Rev. Ernest Grey Thatcher, M.A., of Keble College, Oxford, vicar of Taraworth.
