i Tpuom ooa own coTtYcesftjNDttN'jVl PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD. [ A meeting of tho Parihaka Road Board was held ou Wednesday, Nov. 26th. ! Present: Messr* Fleming (chairman), Grcine, Dow, Syino, T. Morrow, A. Gray, and McHardy. . Correspondence was read from the Commissioner of Crown Lands. A petition was received from settlers on the Warea East Road, asking to have the overseer's plan o£ works so altered as to get the greater part of the , money expended on culverting in the bush. It was resolved to take eight chains of the proposed work and call for fresh tenders, Mr Gray and the chairman to open and accept a tender. Mr Alexander was in attendance, and explained to the Boar J the object of the petitioners. A petition from settlers on tho Ihaia Road, was received, desiring Idr Breach's stockyard to be removed, as an impassable place existed on account of it being there. They also asked where the overseer intended spending the money, and suggested that it be expended on that portion of the * road further in the bush. It was proposed by Mr Gane, seconded by Mr Syme, "That the works be carried out," An amendment was moved by Mr' Fleming, seconded by Mr Dew, " That tho request of the petitioners be acceded to." On division the amendment was carried : For the amendment (4) : The Chairman, Dew, Morrow, and Gray ; for the resolution (3) : Messrs Gane, McHardy, and Syme. It was then decided to call for fresh tenders, .whereupon the overseer sent in his resignation. The overseer "reported respecting the request of Mr Bayly for repairs to be made on the Beach Road. He estimated the cast at £15, being about £5 more than the amount of rates accruing in that division in one year. It was resolved not to entertain the application. , Mr Bell waited on the Board, asking for some work, viz., nine chains of metalling on the Puneha Road. It was resolved that not having funds available the request stand over for a while. - It was proposed by Mr Gane, seconded by Mr Me Hardy, "That tho sum of £25 be allotted to the C Division out of the general rates as part' compensation for moneys which had accrued in that division during 1882-87, and which had been expended elsewhere." The resolution was lost on division. For (3): Messrs Gane, Syme, and. McHardy; against (4): Messrs Dew, Gray, Morrow, and Fleming. Accounts to the amount of £15 were passed. The Overseer's resignation was not accepted, but, if necessary, the Chairman was to be requested to call a special meeting. The following tenders for metalling were accepted: — Warea West, E. Alyward, £15 Is; Pungarehu, G. Taylor, £9; Cape, R. Warner, £1 11s 6d per chain; Patihaka, E. 0. Sullivan, £25; Tipoka, G. Dunton, £13 15s; Ngariki, T. Billings, £27 3s; Arawata, M. Dillon, £14 Is ; Namu, G. Taylor, £11. E. 0. Sullivan's tender for .metalling Kahui Road was rejected as being too high. Another meeting was held on December 17th. Mr F. M. Chapman applied for the road running parallel with Sander Road to be made passable. The application was not entertained, there being a good metalled road from each end of same road. Tenders were opened , for Warea East, Kahui, and Punehu roads. E. 0. Sullivan's tender for Kahui Road and J. McDonald's for Punehu Road were accepted. The tender for Warea East was declined, being higher than those opened at the previous meeting, with eight chains more work, valued at from £15 to £18. ' It was decided to again call for fresh tenders. There were no tenders at all for the Ihaia Road. It was resolved, "That the Overseer's resignation be accepted, and that tenders for the offices of overseer, clerk, and treasurer be called, to close at the next meeting of the Board."
