ASSAULT CASE.
John Barnett, a lad, was charged with assaulting another lad named Frank Smith, on the Hospital Road, on November 12.
Mr Samuel appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Govett for the defence.
Defendant pleaded not guilty,
Frank Smith and his mother proved the assault, which took the form of a horse whipping.
Sergeant Duffin deposed to marks on Smith's body.
John Barnett deposed that Smith called him' names, and was in the habit of doing so, and on this particular day ho boxed Smith's ears.
Mark Barnett, brother of the last witness, also gave evidence.
His Worship fined the defendant Is, with costs 7b. The Court rose.
