Mr A. H. Holmes has been appointed Sheriff for the Taranaki District in place of Mr VV. Stuart, who has resigned. A religious service will be held in the Waitara Town Hall on Sunday afternoon, at three o'clock. Constable Tapp passed through town today (Saturday), on his way to Auckland, his place at Foxton having been taken by Constable Gillespie, late of Manaia and Norman by. The boy promptly obeyed, and traced in chalk the name, " Ballance." The insjjector could not forego his little joke, so accosting the boy he said, " that would do excellently in Wanganui, my boy, but it will not do here." The Wesleyan Band of Hope meeting was held on Friday night, and the attendance was large. The various items of a long programme were we 1 rendered, giving great pleasure to those who wore present. The Key. Mr Hammond's address was a weighty, forceful utterance on the making of character, which was calculated to be of great service to the young people who heard it.
