MR. NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY AUCTION AND PRODUCE REPORT.
At the Hayinarket, on Saturday, there was a large attendance. Pigs were in fair demand, especially good large stores, which were all competed for. Slips made 2s to ss, larger sizes 6s to Bs, good stores 158 to 17s 6il. Horses were dull of sale, the draughts advertised being all passed in. five hacks were sold at prices ranging from £1 5s to £2 los. Fruit trees from Mr Vickery's nursery sold at satisfactory rates. At the mart fowls made 6d to Is, ducks Is Bd, geese Is 2d, turkeys 2s 6d, potatoes 2s (5d to 3s, cheese 4d, hams 4d, flour 8s 6d, sugar 3d, tea in half-chests Is 2d. Sundries and furniture sold at satisfactory prices. Cattle. — On Tuesday I held a clearing sale for Mr Noble, at Stratford. There was a good attendance, and cows made full market rates ; they were principally spring calvers. Young heifers sold well ; cows in milk and those near calving made £3 7s 6d to £4, backward £2 to £3 7s 6d, old cows £1 10s to £1 15s, 18-months heifers £1 9s, calves 5s 6d. — At the sale of Mr F. Putt's dairy at Koru, on Tuesday, there was a fair attendance, and, considering the condition of the cows (most of them showing signs of shortness of feed), good prices were realised. Cows in milk made £2 IQp to £2 15s, springing £2 10s to £4, 12 tS 15-months steers 21?, heifers £1, nalves 8s 6d. Poultry, dairy utensils, and sundries all made good prices. — Notwithstanding the drenching rain on Thursday, there was a fair muster of stock at Waiwakaiho. Calves made 7s 6d to 12s, yearlings to 18-months heifers 21s, 2-year heifers in calf 31s, dairy cows to £3, pair vbullocks £10 ss, fat cows £3 Id to £3 3s. There was quite a rush for sheep, and they sold at long prices ; store wethers 12s 6a, ewes in lamb 9s to 12s, culls 7s. , i Produce. — The accounts of sales of butter from London, per Aorangi, arrived last week, and are far worse than, anyone thought possible, the average c^f thousands of kegs not being ov,er jL 45s, while very many were sold at 32s to"4ls. This, combined with Messrs Trengrouse's^London^ advice, just to hand, that nothing but factory separator should be sent to England, makes the future market of the summer month's output very doubtful, except at prices the farmer cannot supply at. Land. — I sold at the hammer, on Saturday, Mr R. H. Thompson's section, 57, Manganui, 106 acres, unimproved bush land, to Mr John Montgomery, at 33s per acre.
