NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOUR BOARD DEFAULT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Although essentially a New Plymouth citizen, and, within reason, jealous of outside interference, speaking fairly. I think the present is a proper time to accord the modicum of credit due to Mr F. McGuire, of Hawera, for the masterly
exposition he made some three years ago of the above Board's position, and for hia efforts to relieve Taranaki ratepayers from, the unjust burden and odium cast upon them tlu'ough the action of our Legislature. We are now made aware by the cablegrams from London that the holders of the Board's debentures, no doubt acting under the highest legal advice, base their claim for compensation from the Government upon the very .'ines laid down by Mr McGuire.— l am, &c, Onlooker.
