FIRE ON POVERTY FLAT.

The firebells rang out a lusty alarm about 9 o'clock this (Monday) morning, tho scene of the fire beiug a small shed on Poverty Flat, belonging to Mr W. Webber. The shed contained a spinning wheel, hackles, and a quantity of hemp, etc., most of which articles were destroyed. It appears that Mr Webber was spinning at the end of his "walk," when the fire broke out. The flames soon got a hold on the building, on account of tho inflamable material inside, and it was with great difficulty that tho wheel and a fow other things were saved. Tho Fire Brigade, under Capt. Mahor, were prompt in responding to tho alarm, and soon had the Hamos put out, but not before the building was completely ruined. Mr Webber, who has lost a considerable quantity of hemp and other thiugs which are not insured, cannot account for the tiro. He thinks that a match might have boeu dropped in tho hemp by some boys who woro playing about tho shed just before the fire.
