NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.

RAIS IN ADDKLA^D. Auckland, March 29. The drought has completely broken up, and the defective drainage at Avondale Asylum has caused an extensive outbreak of typhoid amongst the patients which will necessitate an expenditure of between £500 and £1000. At an inquest on one of the victims, yesterday, the jury are of opinion that the death of the deceased was from typhoid fever, which was attributed by Dr. Hassell to sewer gas, and calls loudly for immediate attention to the state of drainage of the asylum, and to which it is feared more than one will fall a victim. THE PRIM-iOY DI3PnTR. Nelson, March 29. In reply to a telegram from Bishop Harper, Bishop Suter has telegraphed to the following effect :—" If I have power to convene a Synod, as acknowledged by all the Bishops, I have power to make arrangements for Archdeacon Julius' consecration. Before considering whether I summon a Synod, I must have a purpose exactly defined. If to elect a primate, lam willing to convene it, but at such a time from now as to give all the members a fair opportnnity to attend, and as there is no' necessity to postpone Archdeacon Juliusconsecration, I am sending you a ccm mission to proceed to consecration and to associate with yourself such Bishops as you wish. I will not hold myself responsible for any delay in consecration. I am coming to Christchurch next week."
