Betting at the start was 2 and 3 to 1 on Matterson, who had a slight lead for a short time, but McLean easily picked him up, and at Putney was live lengths ahead. After that the race was practically over, McLean winning by 20 lengths. Time, 22tnin. 40see. Matterson rowed very weakly, and seemed to have little left in him.
