THE HOSPITAL VERANDAH.

ENTERTAINMENT IN THE HALL. Tiie entertainment given in the Alexandra Hall by the Central School children and friends on Friday night, in aid of the funds to construct a verandah at the hospital was successful in every respect. The attendance of the public was large, and, consequently, the receipts totalled up to the respectable sura of £25, which, when expenses are paid will leave a nett return of about £20. With the programme placed before them the audience were quite taken, and they repeatedly expressd their approval in unstinted applause. The way the pupils acquitted themselves spoke volumes for the training they had received from their instructors. The programme was as xinder : — Piano solo, Miss Teed ; recitation, " Father Time," a pupil ; drill, " Firing Exercise," cadets ; recitation, "The Standard Bearer," a pupil; chorus, "We Greet Thee, Merry Spring Time," the pupils; recitation, "The Days of the Week," seven girls; drill, "Manual Exercise," cadets ; drama, " Tho Dentist's Den," characters taken by four pupils ; chorus, '* There's Music Everywhere," the pupils; play, "Spellbound," characters taken by forty pupils ; chorus, " Dear Old Home," pupils. The second part of the programme commenced with a piano solo by Mrs Malone. Miss Teed sang " The Swanee River." A zither duet, " German selections," was played by Miss Furlong and Mr Lauhmayer; 1 issHempton sang " Forever and forever ;*" Rev. W. Grant gave a vocal solo ; Mr R. Eyre recited " Shamus O'Brien ;" Mrs Malone played a piano solo ; and two tableaux, "The Captives " and " The Hospital Ward" completed the bill. The entertainment proved a very enjoyable one.
