MOA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly mooting was held in tho Ingle wood Institute on Tuesday. Present : Messrs Frankly n, A. Bishop, Atkinson, Langly, Baker, Mathews, and Horrocks. Mr Bishop was voted to the chair in the absence of Mr W. D. Thomson. Outward correspondence was road as follows :—: — Land Board, New Plymouth. Inward : A letter from Mr J. Day ; from W. Gyde ; W 11. Franklyn, re tree having fallen on the Lepper Roud ; from Mr Schudrer, re clearing in front of his residence on Dudley Road ; from Mr Carstcns, asking for an extension of time on his contract; from Mr Doush, re footbridge ; from Mr Havibicr ; from 11. Peters, re bad state of Egmont Road north ami south, and referring to a bridge (in the Lepper Road which was in imminent danger of: being burnt, were it not for Iris and family's exertions. The Overseer was instructed to inspect the road in front of Mr Day's section. The Bridge Qn tho Upland Road waa also left to the Overseer to look after. He was albo instructed to sec to the tree fallen across Lcppcr lload. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Sowder, telling him that tho Board were sorry they could not do anything with regard to his burnt fence. The foot-bridge on Bedford Road was left for the Overseer to inspect, and if necessary to have it done, but It was not to exceed £3. It was moved by Mr Franklyn, and secouded by Mr Atkinson, " That Mr Peters be requested to send in the time which he spent in clearing about and saving the Alanagoaraka Road Bridge Mr Jordan attended the Board, and asked if anything could be done to the Kipara Road to make it passablo, as lie aud others residing thereon had to carry everything on their backs. This road had been felled about 10 years ago, and light wood and other scrub had grown on it, which make it impassable for trailic. — Tho matter was left in the hands of the overseer to inspect the road and call for tenders and accept them, the amount not to exceed £8. — Mr Jaques also attended tho meeting and complained of the bad places on tho Ratapiki Road, about one mile past the school. It was authorised to be done when the o was suflicient money. Mr Haverbier was granted three feet on Kaimata Road for the erection of a live fence. A letter was received from tho SurveyorGeneral stating that it was the intention of the Government to declare the Rohoke Road and portion of the Junction Road, from Durham Road to tho Waitara River, to be District Roads under the care and control of the Moa Road Board, but before the necessary Order in Council was issued in terms of section 80, Public Works Act. 1882, he would ask if their Board had any objection to urge against the proposal. The clerk was instructed to write to the Survey-General, stilting that the Moa Road Board objected to taking over the Kuita Road until properly surveyed. The Board also consider that the Cfif ton County should take over part of those roads between the Junction Road and the Waitara River, Mr Leech attended the meeting, and asked the Board to build a bridgo over the Makara River on Bristol Road. A letter was received from the Land Board, recommending the making of this bridge to the favorable consideration of the Roaa Board. It was proposed by Mr Horrocks, and seconded by Mr Langley, " That tho construction of a bridgo over the east of the Manganui river on the Bristol Road be taken in hand, it not to cost more than £60." The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for the erection of the bridge at once, and that plans and specifications be sent to Air Robiuson for his approval. Tho bridgo was to bo completed by a certain date, or a heavy penalty enforced. It was propobcd and carried that £12 bo laid out on a cuivort, &c, on tho Bristol Road, and that tenders be at ouco called for the same. Mr Horrocks modified his former motion regarding the taking of tho proposed roads. Ho Hays the Government Survoyor might have been right, but thai the Moa Road Board would ask tho Go • vernment to make some alteration re the Kohuki Road. Tho Chairman reported that a tree from Mr Orr's section had fallen across the Upland Road North, which required removing. Tho Secretary waa instructed to write to Mv On 1 , asking him to remove tho tree. It was proposed that the ovorseer havo power to employ men to do the work neglected by tho contractors, and to charge tho cost of such work to the contractors. Tho contractors are to receive notice of this motion. — Mr Schumacher was instructed to write to Mr Gollur to know from him if he intended to accept the agreement of the Board re leasing tho piece of road. seconded by Mr Mathcws,tliat the overseer be instructed to repair a hole opposite Mr O'Kecffe's on the Junction Road, and that tenders be ca"od for it without delay ; carried* — Mr Mortinson asked the Board to mako a track to his section on the Upland Road noiih. As the Board had no funds at their disposal for that road, the members said they regret they can do nothing but sympathise with Mr Mortinson. The following tenders were accepted for work as umiernamed, fresh tenders to be called for contracts Nos. 13 and 14, Kaimatn Road: — Contract Xo. 12, Bristol Road, clearing, 11. A. Patterson, £15; No. 1«, Suffolk Road, clearing, W. Codd, £11; Xo. 17, Tariki Road, formation, (J. B. Codd, £9 10s ; Ratapiko Road, F. Temamar, £15 10s; Ratapiko Road, under scrubbing, £12. There being only £5 in the Board's hands, this tender could not be accepted. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £72 8s 9d.
