FKOM OUR OWN CORRBSPONDENT.] Novkmher 25. — A steer was killed by the up train on Saturday evening last. The occurrence took place ucnr the Ngatautu bridge. The animal was carried by the cowcatcher to the middle of the bridge, the train having to be backed to remove the carcase. There were several head of cattle on the line at the time, and I am told by one of the passengers of the train that, had the engine struck the second animal, there would have been in his opinion a serious accident. The steer was the property of Mr Joseph Mattock. Truly, the fanners havr a lot to contend with — butter at a low price, and accidents of various kimta happening to their cattle. A short time ago one farmer found two of his best heifers dead in a creek, lie had been looking for them for several days, and at last it was the stench which proceeded from them that led him to 'where they were. Another settler lost four working bulloclvß recently ; two of them were caught or entangled in supple-jacks, and were found dead.
