EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board met on WednesdayPresent : Miss Heywood, Mrs Richmond, Messrs-Kelly (chairman), Bauchope, Syme, Faull, Olson, Adlam, and Andrews.

Town Committee. — The Town Committee recommended that Miss Emily Rennell should be transferred from the Central to tho West Infant School as pupil teacher. — The questiou was referred to the Inspector for his report. — Two resolutions were also received from the same Committee hearing on the question of getting money for prizes.

Upper Mangorei. — Miss Cundy was appointed temporarily to teach at Upper Mangorei, as recommended by the Mangorei Committee, appointment to date from November 18.

Architect's report.— The Architect reported that he forwarded plans for residence at Waiongona, and addition to the Inglewood school, and sketch plan for alteration at_ Waitara schools and residence at Midhirst. — A committee consisting of the Chairman, and Messrs Andrews and Faull were appointed to consult with the Architect on the plans, and to decide on the work to be carried out. — The Architect also reported that the Warea residence had been started, and the fencing at Frankley Road had been completed. — The above Committee met after the meeting and decided that the works mentioned above should be carried out.

Tarata. — Mrs Bourke was appointed sewing mistress at Tarata, as recommended by the Committee.

Fitsroy. — Mrs J. B. Roberts was appointed sewing mistress at Fitzroy school, in accordance with the Committee's report. Bell Block.— The Bell Block Committee reported the illness of Mr Potts, the teacher there, on November 5, and the closing of the school. — Mr Pott» has since returned to his duties.

Tikorangi. — Miss Alice FauJl intimated that she would continue her duties as pupil teacher at Tikorangi until the end of November.

Pukearuhe. — Mr J. Gillespie tendered his resignation, under date October 24, as School Commissioner.

Biok School. — Mr Pridham, Principal of the High School, wrote — " In taking my leave of the Board, under which I have worked for the past nearly 8 years, I desire to express my thanks for the courtesy and kindness which I have received at their hands, and I should be glad to receive an expression of their opinion whether I have given general satisfaction in my pos tion as head of the New Plymouth High School. — Mr Pridham also mentioned that Dr. Hocken, of Dunedin, had received the Maori curios from the High School all right. — The Chairman will •write to Mr Pridham.

Objectim.— Rev. J. T. Pinfold and Mr W. T. Oxenliam objected to the amalgamation of the two schools at Waitara. — No action was taken.

Amalgamation. — It was decided — "That as the Board propose to amalgamate the Waitara East and West Schools, the teachers in those schools receive the usual notice that their services are no longer required, and that steps be taken to obtain teachers for the amalgamated school." Petition. — Messrs J. Crockett, W. Jordan, G. Kendall, J. Phillips, W. Phillips, R. A. Wood, and J. Earp petitioned the Board to proclaim the district in which they lived, namely, the Upper Carrington Road and Upper Frankley Eoad, a school district. — Tne petition was referred to the Inspector for enquiry and report.

Central School. — Applications for third master at the Central School were considered, and it was decided to forward the following names to the Town Committee in order of merit from which to select . Messrs Mills, Harvey, Kitchenham, Simpson, Foster, and Sinclair.

Albert Road. — Eight parents of children attendingthe Albert Road School petitioned the Board to appoint a female teacher to the school. — The petition was referred to the Egmont Committee for their information.

Ladies' Sewing Committee's Report. — It was decided, in respect of the Ladies' Sewing Committee's report, "That it be adopted, printed, and distributed to the school committees and teachers for their information and guidance, and the attention of those school committees where the schools showed a minimum of marks of 12 and under be drawn to the circumstance, with a view of greater effort being made to improve during the ensuing year.

Notice of MUwn. — Mr Syme gave notice of motion "That the Board consider at its next meeting the question of subsidising a school in tha Cape District near Pungarehu. Accounts. — Accounts amounting to £16 19s 6d wore passed for payment. The Board adjourned.
