POLICE COURT. THIS DAY.
December 8. — Before O. E. Rawson Esq., R.M. JACKQUASH AGAIN. John Jackquash was charged with using insulting and abusive language (as per summons) towards Dougald Lattey at Tariki Road, on November 9, with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. Accused made a statement in broken English, which was taken as a plea of not guilty.
Mr Pardy called Dougald Lattey, uohoolrnaster at Tariki Road, who stated that the accused, who had children at the school, came to the school on November 9th, at 2 o'clock. He saw accused, who waß in a very an»ry mood, at the door, and told him if ne wanted to talk to him he had batter see him after school. Jackquash wanted to know why he chastised his child, and then commenced a round of abuse within the hearing of the children. Jackquash said "You b you are an old woman." "I'll slap your face, and split your head." He told him if he used such language as that again it was more a question whether he (Lattery) would not break Jackquash's head. He then returned to his duties, leaving Jackquash outside. Jackquash had made more than one of these visits. A boy pupil named Bielowski corroborated the master's story, and added that the master never, to his knowledge, punished a child severely. Jackquash stated that if ho had not gone to the schoolmaster over the punishing of his child, " his missua " would have gong up and given the schoolmaster a hammering.
His Worship : She had better not do so. Jackquash made other statements, bat His Worship pointed oat that if he had a complaint against the schoolmaster ho should have gone to the School Committee which body would have investigated his charges. A fine of ss, with costs £1 Is 4d was inflicted. A month was allowed to pay the fine. The Court rose.
