ASSAULT IN BROUGHAM-STREET.

TO THE EDITOR. Sill, — J was surprised to witnrss on Tuesday Dight a most cowardly and unseemly attack upon the Salvation Army whilst holding an open air meoling in Brougham-street. Some miscreant threw a stone, perhaps only with tho intention of oreating some amusement amone the crowd, but unfortunntely with a result far more serious. Tho stone struck a woman on the leg, and it was with difficulty she was assisted home. Also, one of the orowd used language most filthy and disgusting whilst the "captain" was speaking. Such language, I venture to say, would not be allowed io any publichouse without the summary ej-ctment of the person who degraded himself so much. And all this while a most remarkable example of Christian forgiveness was shown by those who had charge of tho meeting. Not a threat made use of, not a woid of rebuke spokeD, but rather an expression of sorrow that persons should B> far forget their manliness ss to bo guilty of such misdeeds. Surely the Army, with its noble record of good done to so many thousands throughout this cnbny ought to be allowed to follow its own peculiar way without being bubjtct to treatment ot this character. Had anyone ventured to annoy the Town Band as it was ploying a little higher up tho street summary justice would have been dealt very quickly. I think, sir, theee facts deserve to bo made public, with the hope that those vho were guilty of such misconduct will feel heartily ashurned of themselves. lam not a member of the Salvation Army, nor have I been requisted to write this note on their behalf, but the same toleration should bo extended 1o them as is allowed to others. — I urn, &c, Tbavelleb.
