MURDEROUS ASSAULT BY A WOMAN.

[PBB PRESS ASSOCIATION]. Thames, August 20. — Wm. Davis, a milkman at Mt. Pleasant, was murderously assaulted by his wife on Saturday night. It appears that quarrels have been frequent between them .for some time past, and on Saturday night Davis returned home under the influence of drink, and while undreaming he commenced to quarrel with his wife, and subsequently (as she alleges) took up a large butcher's knife and threatened to out her throat ; at this time Mrs Davis was in bed, and fearing lie would carry out his threat, she caught up a tomahawk thut was on the window sill and struck her husband several times, inflicting no fewer than seventeen wounds on his head, which is terribly mutilated. He now Heß in the hospital, and there is little hopa of his recovery. Mrs Davis was arrested by thn police, and brought before the Court to-day on a charge of attempted muider, but was remanded for eight days.
