COUNTY CHAIRMAN'S EXPENSES.

TO THE EDITOB.

Sib, — I was glad to read that letter in last week's paper reminding those whose duty it is, to look after our county councillors. I v see they will meet next Wednesday, when they propose to strike a rate. Now, sir, I want to ask you if it will be legal to do so ? Why should we be taxed to pay for the neglect of councillors? Why should we have to pay for the law expenses and damage caused by the accident to Bishop ? If we had had a chairman who had the interest of the ratepayers at heart we should not have been brought into this mess; but all that he seeio's to think of is to draw his travelling expenses before he has incurred them, and, knowing that there is a large sum of money owing to the Bank, he has made it larger by taking what does not belong to him. Mr. Price, the councillor who signs the oheques, in letting Mr. Elliot get the money, is as bad as the chairman, for he neelects the interests of the ratepayers in every particular. His whole action since he has been in the Council has been one of Belf . Can you tell me, sir, how much, last year, our worthy councillors and chairman took for themselves under the head of travelling expenses ? lam-sure it must be a large amount. I consider they are not entitled to it, for they have got our affairs into a blessed mess, and therefore it is time a fresh lot was put in. Mr. Price seems to defy the ratepayers, and tells them he will do as he likes; but, sir, I do not think the ratepayers will stand a waste oi their money much longer, nor their roads ne^leoted in the manner the councillors are now doing. — I am, &c, One Injured.
