WESLEYAN GOSPEL TEMPERANCE SOCIETY.

The usual bi-monthly meeting of the Woaleyan Goopel Temperance Society was held in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening, when there was a good attendance, tbe Rev. Mr. Beck presiding. The meeting was favoured with the presence of two Waitara friends, who had come in to take part, viz., Messrs. Clark and B. C. Lawrence, both of whom gave addresses from different points of the subject of Temperance, and bandied their subjects in a very clear and able' manner. The Chairman's remarks were, as is usual with him, well on the mark, bsing clear and to the point, and were dealt with principally from the standpoint of evidence on the subject taken from the experience of some of the leading medical men of the day,

In addition to the opening and closing hymns and prayers, the following items, with the speeches indicated above, formed the programme : Three anthems by the Church Ohoir at intervals during the evening ; recitation by Miss Janet Saddler, this item being exceptionally well given ; song by Mr. Arrowsmith, who was unfortunately suffering from a cold, and this prevented his strong voice being heard lo its fullest advantage. Mrs. F. Okey also sang a song in her usual pleasing style. The enrolment of several new members brought to a close a very successful meeting. — [ Communicated.']
