Mermaid took the running from the post, and won by a length. 174 on totalisator, 25 on Lifebuoy, 82 on Mermaid, 6 on Tommy, 4 on Little Nell, 39 on Virginia, and 18 on Prospero. Dividend, £1 18s. The winner was sold to Mr. Barnard for £22. ONSOLATION HANDICAP, of 40 SOYS — Nomtna ion, ls)v; acceptance, 1 soy. Distance, 1 mil*. Mr. Harrison's Hagar, Bst (White) ... 1 Mr. Morton's Artist, 6st (Colello) ... 2 Mr. Belcher's Tongariro, Bst 121 b (owner) 3 Weasel, 7st, and Bangalore, 7st 21b, also ran. Artist cut out the running from the start, and was only headed in the straight, Hagar winning by a short neck, Tongariro a couple of lengths away. 214 on the totalisator : 14 on Tongariro, 62 on Hagar, 40 on Bangalore, 77 on Weasel, and 21 on Artist. Dividend, £3 2s. This concluded the meeting.
