TESTIMONIAL TO MRS. CARR.
Some six months sioce we published a paiauraph respectiag the dcalh of Dr. Thomas Guthrio Cair, tho well-known mesmeric lecturer, at Mcrpoth, N.S.W. As the" Dr. anil his wife were well-knowr in New Pl> mouth, making a stay hero ct one time i'or nearly twelve months, it may be interesting to some of our renders to know that previous to her leaving Morpeth the other day Mrs. Carr was presented with the following address and a testimonial in tho shape of a watch. At the meeting, v-hich was presided over by the Mayor, the following complimentary aidress was read : —
"Dsur Mudam,— We the residents of Morpeth, on the eve of your departure from amongst us, where you have lived so lo i£,deetn it a fitting opportunity to express to you publicly our hi>;h appreciation ol' your many excellent qualities, as exemplified in particular by your sympathy, tenderness, nail Cbristiaa charity towards the suffering and the siclc, especially iiiupn^st tbe poor, aud where your presence and skill were uiO3t needed. By the bed of sickness, without fee or hope of earthly reward, you were always nursing and tending, and aiding and chetring those who were in pain or affliction. Wo desiro to express our deep sympathy withjouin the reotnt s^d bereavement of your excellent husband, the Lite Dr. Thomas Gulhrie Cair, whose kinduess of heart aud ttmk'rne&s to the eick, and other amiable qualities, wo all remember aud bear cheerlul testimony to. J3efore Baying farewell, we beg leave'to present you with a watch, in token of our esteem and regard, und as a s-niall acknowledgement of your disiaterestt-il, skilful, and tender attention to the sick ami afflicted whilst you have been a resident at Morpeth. Hoping that Divine Pronrlence will watch over and blebH both yourself ami AlibS (Jarr. — We remain, alwa;, s sincere friends, J. G. Whitb. M.i} or, on behalf of the residents of Morpeth." Mr. White then pn-seuted tha testimonial, a beautiful gold watch, the inner case of wliich bore an insc iption, " Presented to Mr?. Ccirr b} frien>le for kindness to the sick during her stay in Morpetli 2nd August, 1886."
