MAN DROWNED. Auckland, September 17. A man was drowned at. Pollock's Settlement, named Stuart Jamiesou , an oyster gatherer. He leaves a widow and three ohildren, A CUTTER ASHORE. The cutter' Start went ashore at Chamberlain's Island, and is likely to become a total wreck. Insured for £200 in the South British. CAPTAIN OF THE SYBIL DROWNED. Captain Trayte, of the schooner Sybil, was drowned while lying at Manahiki. He accidentally rolled overboard while resting on the deck. He was taken out of the water immediately, but all efforts to restore him wer,e unavailing. The deceased was suffering from an attack of asthma at the time. £GOLD AT HOKITIKA. Hokitika, September 16. Several important alluvial gold finds have been made between the Hokitika and Arahura rivers during the last week or so. OFF FOR BIG BAY. Christchurch, September 16. The Hinemoa left Lyttelton yesterday for Port Chalmers, en route for Big Bay. She took 18 of Gibb's party and 10 other diggers. FATAL CART ACCIDENT. Ohristohuroh, September 17. Stephen Middlebourne was thrown from a baker's cart at Knightstown and killed. ANOTHER PARTY FOR BIG BaY. Dunedin, September 16. A party of 10 men proceed from Dunedin, per Hinemoa.^to Big Bay. HOTEL BURNT DOWN. Invercargill, September 1 7. ~ The Three Horse Shoes Hotel, near Kennerly East Road, was burned yesterday with the bulk of its contents. The fire was caused through sheets drying before the fire igniting tho building. Insurance — building £200 in the New Zealand (re-insured in the London and Lancashire) ; furniture, £100 in the New Zealand.
