LARGE DEFALCATIONS BY A BANK

Hodgson, the bill clerk of the Union Bank, was remanded till Wednesday. It was stated in Court that the total defalcations amounted to over £1000. Hodgson is cousin to a man of the same name who while in the service of the National Bank, some years ago, stole a large sum in gold from it and buried the money in the churchyard at Christchurch.

The police here have received information that jewellery to the value of £150 was stolen last week from a gentleman staying in an hotel in Ohristchurch, who is said to be a son of the Duke of Leinster.
