TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.

MR. D. JONES' NEW PREMISES. The new shop which Mr. D. Jones hag erected in Devon-street, on the old gaol site, comes most aptly under the heading of town improvements, an! fills up one of the f e .v remaining vacancies in our principal street. The lower story o£ tho building is laid off into three apartments. That in the front is tho shop; that in tho centre ia the refreshment room; and that behind is the kitchen. The shop will have one of its windows devoted to fruit and siiuilivr chittela, and the other window will be rcpleto with show goods of the grocery branch. The rcfreahmant room will afford sitting and table room for about forty cuatomera. Tho kitchen of course in fitted up with all the culinary appliances necessary to a refreshment houso. The upstaira portion of tho building will be the " living " part of tho house, with tha exception of a large room in front, which will either be fitted up for tho accommodation of ladies who visit for refreshment, or will be let out as a club or meeting rooai. The building is of a very neat design, the useful and economical rather than the ornamental having been kept in view by Mr. Sanderson, the architect. Mr. Cliff was the builder. Mr. Jones opened his new premises on Friday evening, and tho windows were taßtsfully adorned with flowers for tho occasion. From the way in which Sir. Jones' business has been increasing of late it is almost superfluous to wish him success in his new establishment.
