EDUCATION BOARD.
THIS JDA.Y. The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present : Mr. Kelly (chairman), Mrs. Richmond, Miss Eeywood, and Messrs. Andrews, Bauchope, Bluck, and Faull. Inglewood. — The Inglowood School Committee informed the Board that they had let a stumping contract for £18, and they desired the Board to meet the payment. The matter of a cupboard and dangerons fireplaces were also mentioned. — Consideration of these matters was deferred. Waitara.— On Mr. Kelly's motion it was decided " That the application of the Waitara School Committee for black board and easel be referred to the Inspector, and that the refund for stove for master's residence cannot be granted." Opvnake. — The Chairman stated that dissatisfaction had been expressed at Opunake at the method which had been adopted by the Board in repairing the Opnnake School building, particularly on the score that the work was not being done by contract. The Chairman explained that the work being done was alterations, and was hardly capable of being done by contract; moreover, owing to the distance away, the necessary supervision of contract work could not be given. From tre nature of the work, it was thought better to have it done by the Board's own workmen, and so have it done properly. — On Mr. Faull's motion, seconded by Mr. Wade, it was resolved, 11 That the Board cannot agree to depart; from the plan of work already agreed to with respect, to the Opunake school." OJcato.— Mr. Roebuck, chairman of the Okato School Committee, wrote asking the reasons why the Board dismissed the teacher at that school. — It was decided to draw the correspondent's attention to the Inspector's report. Sewing ATislresses. — On Mr. Bauchope's motion, seconded by Mr. Bluck, it was resolved, " That in schools where no female is employed, a sewing mistress be employed on the recommendation of the School Committee two daya a week of one hour each at a remuneration of £8 a-year." Painting. — On Mr. Faoll's motion, seconded by Mr. Andrews, it was lesolved, " That Mr. Win. Wilson, of Tataraimaka, be employed to paint the school buildings at Oiiiatn, Okato and Tataraimaka as soon as weather permit?, the necessary material to be supplied to bis order." {Left sitting.)
