CHARITABLE AID BOARD. THIS DAY.
The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met to-day. Present: Messrs. Kichmond (chairman), Bayly, J. Elliot, and T. Elliot. Funds. — The following letter from the Premier's office was read : — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of ycur letter of the 16th inatant, stating that the Board has levied contributions on the local authorities in the district, and that in accordance with their promise the Government will advance money to enable the Board to carry on until the contributions come in. In reply I am directed to express regret that the Government are unable to comply with your request, as since my letter of the 12th of November was written, the audit officers have decliced to sanction the payment of any subsidies in advance. Several other Boards in the same position aro making arrangements locally for temporary advances, the Government understand, an! I am to suggest that the mine course might be followed by your Board. — The Hospital Board, under these circumstances, have represented to the local bodies the necessity for prompt payment of the subsidies. New Plymouth Hospital. — The Board j went fully into matters connected with the New Plymouth Hospital. The subjects of discussion were principally accounts and other detail matters.
