LARGE FIRE IN DUNEDIN.
FERGUSONS AND MITCHELL'S PRINTING ESTABLISHMENT BURNT.

Donedik, October 7. — Atabout 6 o'clock this morning, a most distructive fire was discovered raging in the warehouse of Ferguson and Mitchell, stationers,' printers, &c. Owing to the prompt action of the Fire Brigade, the flames were subdued speedily, but not before damage to the extent of thousands had been done. The whole of tho mechanical, composing, and part of the lithographic departments were destroyed. The firm's building and stock are insured for £22,500, the amount being distributed over most of \he k>ca\ offieas. The fire seems to have originated near the gas engine, which was used as the motive power for the printing machinery, but in what way it started is not yet discovered.
