The members of tho Jockey Club are Subscribing to present their late Secretary) Mr. Pntil, with a testimonial expressing their appreciation of his services. To-morrcw Newton King has advertised to sell at his mnit that desirable little property, just out of town, known as the Maori Chapel, with five sections of land. Owen and Graham's sample?, damaged by the late fire, are to be on sale at Mr. Ford's on Saturday. Capt. McCfedie, of the Wellington Artillery, has been appointed a member of the Board of Examiners of militia and volunteers officer*. Capt. Goscoyne is gazetted in the New Zealand militia. New Zealand war medals have been issued to Privat9 Bishop, Taranaki ; Private Brewer, Taranaki ; Private Erskine, A.C; Private McDonald, Taranaki. After bearing of the bankrupt state of Education Boards at Auckland and elsewhere, it is decidedly refreshing to know that when all liabilities, such us new schools, etc., are met, there is only an overdraft of about £50 against the Taranaki Board. This state of affairs is an improvement on last year, when the deficiency was &3Q9.
