The sentence was afterwards commuted, and he ■was ordered to be conlined in a lunatic asylum, to be confined during his natural life. Yesterday we received a brief telegram to the elt'ect that n patient in the Auckland Lunatic Asylum had assaulted another with a broomstick, fracturing the man's skull ; this morniog we have received further particulars, and from them we iiod that it was Gschncll at his murderous work again, and that the man he assaulted was dead. Tlic following is the Press Association telegram respecting the circumstance :—": — " Anton Qscl-ncll, the lunatic who killed a fellow patient in the Auckland lunatic asylum, was suffering from homicidal mania. Ho is the man uho murdered his mate near Stratford (Taranaki) somu time ago. It appears he was left alone while the warder got his breakfast, and instead of going into the yard with tha other patients he managed to get into a room where J. J. Mills waß, and •with a box broom "deck scrubber" took Mills unaware, and smashed in the back of his skull. Ho then informed the warder he had killed a man, and said he had been directed to do it some time ago. Mills was an old Auckland resident."
