[per press association.J FIRE AT NEWTON. Auckland, October 4. Afire broke out shortly after ten o'clock last night in Belcher's block of shops, Karangahape Eoad, occupied by Davis, Eerder, and Fenton, grocers. The buildings wero all destroyed, and were insured in the New Zealand Office for £200. The fire was confined to the block in which it originated. Mrs. ftyan was insured for £100 in the National ; and adjoining two-story house also in the same. Belcher's — occupied by Mrs. Snell — was damaged, but not greatly; insured ia the New Zealand Office for £500. MAIL LEIfT 'PRISOO. Wellington, October 4. The s.s. City of New York, with the September .hnglisu mails, left San Francisco for Auckland oa the 22nd September, tune-table data. FIRE AT GtiEYMOOTH. Gkeymouth, October 4. John Hughes' store at Kutherghen was burnt down. Next to nothing was saved. It is insured for £175 on the stock ; building, two policies, £200 in Imperial, and £275 in the Victoria.
