The Taranaki Herald. PUBLISHED DAILY. SATURDAY, JUNE 17, 1882.

We have to hold ov-er several articles, reports, and other matters to mike room for the Financial Statement, which was delivered last night by the Hon. Major Atkinson. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received advice by cable from London of the sailing on May 29, from Plymouth, of the ship Rakaia. This vessel, it will be remembered, suffered detention at the above port through the breaking out of small pox. Mr. E. Griffin, of Huirangi, met with a serious accident to-day. While riding on horseback, his horse fell, and Mr. Griffin sustained a fracture of the leg above the ankle. He was brought into town, and his injuries were attended to at the Hospital. We learn that a Government land sale in the West Coast District will probably bo held next week, when about 8,000 acres (5,000 acres of which is open land), lying between Oeo and Tangatara, will be offered for sale. Some bush land comprising about 10,000 acres, situated inland of Manaia, will also be offered at the same time. Captain Edwin telegraphed last evening that bad weather waa probable between north-east and north and west. Glass fall again within twelve houra, and after that time sea heavy. Captain Edwin telegraphed at 12.23 a.m. to-day —"Same indications as wired yesterday. Indications of a heavy gale." It must be a fine thing to have three men-of-war in harbour at once. Since the arrival of the Nelson and her consorts one Wellington firm has supplied about lOOOlbs. of beef daily to the ships, besides, no doubt, a large amount of other kinds of fresh meat. The sailors, according to a Wellington paper, are said to have expressed the greatest admiration for Now Zealand beeE, which they consider far superior to any obtainable in Australia. An adjourned meeting of the creditors in the estate of Thomas Leedom was held this morning, Mr. Bauchope occupying the chair. Mr. T. Bayly stated that he could not offer the creditors a larger composition than he had offered yesterday, viz., 10s. in the £. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Samuel, " That the trustee be requested to realise the estate in due course, and that in doing so he be authorised to employ Mr. Leedom on such terms aa he shall deem expedient." Mr. J. 0. Davies was appointed trustee. The Financial Statement was delivered last night by the Hon. Colonial Treasurer, and was transmitted by telegraph to the whole of: the newspapers in New Zealand. It consibted of 12,-000 words, and was t/iken in New Plymouth by Messrs. Parker and Beale, whom we must compliment for the correct and clear manner the copy was passed into our hands. The time occupied in taking off the speech was five and a-half hours —or at the rate of about 1,250 words an hour each, which speaks well for the proficency of those gentlemen.
