Gladstone stated with reference to the present situation of affairs in Egypt that the Government considered that any discussion on the subject at the present time would be premature. The Premier, however, explained that the policy which the British Government were following would be aimed solely at securing a permanence of existing rights in Egypt, and that Turkey was acting in harmony with the other European Powers.
