Rewi has arrived in Auckland, and proceeds to Waitara, per steamer, on the first chance, to represent the King natives at the Mokau Land Court. FEUD BETWEEN TWO HAPUS. A feud has arisen between two hapus of the Ngapuhi Tribe, at Ruapekapeka, over the allocation of land by the Native Land Court. The Pehiaweri hapu have destroyed clearings and fences of the Ruapekapeka natives by fire. Both parties are armed, and Commissioner Clendon has gone to effect a settlement of the difficulty. THE STEAMER WESTPORT. Christchitrch, June 15. The latest information about the s.s. Westport is that she has a hole in her forehold, and had to jettison her cargo. She eventually got off, and steamed to Akaroa. She had on board 2790 sacks of wheat from Timaru. STEAM ENGINES ON TRAMWAYS. Dukedin, June 15. The City Council intend taking legal proceedings against Mr. Proudfoot, the tramway proprietor, to compel him to oease using steam engines on his lines. GOLD PROSPECTING. A meetiug on the Waikaka goldfields carried a resolution in favour of a reduction of the gold duty and miners' rights ; also expressed an opinion that miners should be allowed to prospect on private property, on condition that if payable gold was found they should be allowed to purchase by arbitration. If gold was not found, the miners were to restore the land to its previous state. ACCIDENT ON STEAM DREDGE. Dunedin, June 15. The body of Walter Bridges, a fireman, was found in the well of the new dredge this morning. He was missed during the night, and it is supposed he fell into the well, striking a bucket. He leaves a wife and five children nearly destitute.
