DEATH OF GARIBALDI.

Guiseppe Gabibaldi, whose death ig just announced, was born at Nice, of poor parents, ou July 22, 1807. His earlier years were spent in seafaring pursuits, but having an unquenchable love of adventure, and an ardent spirit of patriotism he soon became involved in the various efforts made to liberate and regenerate Italy. He was twice implicated along with Mazzini in conspiracies against Charles Albert, King of Sardinia, and sentence of death having been passed upon him he was obliged to keep away from the country. He took service first under the Bey of Tunis, then fought for the Eio Grande Republic against Brazil, and passed through a series of surprising enterprises before returning to Europe, where he took part in the struggle against the French in 1848. He returned to America, became a soap and candle manufacturer for a time, then visited England, and next settled down as a farmer on the Island of Caprera. In 1860, when the rising against Austrian rule took place, he formed his celebrated corps of Alpine Chasseurs, and engaged with distinction in all the principal actions in that memorable struggle. He interested himself next in Hungarian independence, again visited England, took part in the campaign in 1866, took the field against and defeated the Pontifical troops in 1867. Assisted the French in their war against Germany, and in 1875 was elected to the Italian Parliament. His latest public act was the delivery of an anti-papal speech at the celebration of the Sicilian vespers at Palermo in March last.
