It is now announced that the king of Ashantee demands that the refugee chief who has placed himself under British protection iv the colony, should be surrendered. Sir Samuel Rowe, Governor of Sierra Leone, has refused the demand, hence i the threatened attack on the colony by tho Ashantees. DEATH OF THOMAS CARLYLE. Tho death is announced to-day, after a lingering illness, of Thomas Curly lo, tho eminent author, aged 85. COERCION BILL DENOUNCED. London, February 7. Public meetings have been held in London and several of the provincial towofi, at which resolutions were passed denouncing the Irish Coercion Bill now before Parliament. IRISH TENANTS GIVING WAY.
