Melbourne, October 9. In a desperate struggle between some ; burglars and larrikins and the police, the latter were victorious. Seven Chinese were murdered by New Guinea natives. The success of Laycock created some excitement. Flags were hoisted. Private advices from London report a decided advance in the wheat market. Sydney, October 11. Arrived : Union Company's steamer Tararna, from Auckland. The Government has given notice of the withdrawal of £11.5,000 from the Banks, leaving now £580,000. Sailed : Hero, for New Zealand. Brisbane, October 11. A demonstration has taken place against tho Government for tho action taken by them with regard to the mail contract via Torres Straits.
