LATEST NEWS FROM THE CAPE.
A despatch from Capetown of the Btb April, says the Zulus appeared to have recovered very rapidly from their defeat at Giragerova, as large numbers are reported in the neighborhood of Ekowe Sickness is more or less prevalent aruont; the British forces. A strong British force will be despatched from Turga for Cetewayo's kiaal in a fortnight. A Capetown despatch dated the 25tb April says — Dubaliuanzi, who led the attack at Gimgerova, on the 3rd April, and other chiefs, with a large number of armed followers, have proffered submission. Lord Chelmsford promises them personal safely, aud possession of their cattle, and at the ending* of the war they should be located on British territory.
John Duan having pledged his word for their safety, the chiefs are expected in at once.
The head of the intelligence department has moved forward from Greytowu to meet the representative from Cetewayo, bat the sincerity of his proposals are suspected. Everything portends early peace. A general hope is entertained that the resignation of Sir Bartle Frere will nob be accepted.
As regards Lord Chelmsford, every kindly allowance is made for his conduct
of the war, the public opiuiou remains as adverse as ever.
A dispatch from Lord Chelmsford announces the transfer of headquarters of the staff to Faricht.
Colonel Crealoek commands a division of the army on the Lower Tuyela River ; General Newgate supersedes Colonel Wood. Colonels Pearson and Wood will command the Independent Flying Colomns.
A white prisoner, who escaped from the Zulus, reports on the 18th April, that Utnbelina and his brother were both killed in tho attack on Colouel Wood's colninn.
