NATIVE AFFAIRS.
MR. PARRIS' VISIT TO PARIHAKA. Mil. Pabuis, who was asked by the Government to see Te Whit i and ascertain from him personally whether it was with bis orders or sanction that the men had been ploughing up Mr. Courtney's land, returned to towu last night.
Mr. Parris was accompanied by Mr. Caverhill, and Mr. C. Messenger. We learn that the interview with Te Whiti was so far satisfactory that the chief stated he in no way desired to commence hostilities, but he owned he had sanctioned the ploughing up of the land, and intended to continue the work, as he wished to bring the question of the confiscated land to an issue with the Government.
Mr. Parris told him that his doing so would tend to create hostility, as the confiscated land could not be surrendered by the Government.
Te Whiti, who was attended by two or three hundred natives, received the party in a very friendly manner, and the interview throughout, was carried on good-lnunoredry.
We hear that the natives were not at work yesterday on Mr. Courtney's land ; but two of the party rode through the town during the day to attend a tangi which was to be held at Bell Block.
