LAND SALE. Auckland, April 29. At a sale of rural lands at the Crow n Lands Office, there was a large attendance and brisk competition. i;lood stouk. The Hero brought down nine yearlings from the most celebrated stables in New South Wales, to the order of Messrs. Perkins, Percival, and Bobbett, of Aucklaud. They are from tho strain of Kelpie, Maribyrnong, Goldsborough, aud Tim Whifflor, and were purchased at the Randwick sale. Three head of prize cattle also arrived, consigned to Messrs. McLean and Co. DIED IN A FIT. A working man named William Johnson, in the employ of Messrs. Arnold, Hine3, and Co., fell down on the wharf in a series of fits, and was taken to the hospital, but died on the way. He is said to be well connected, and to be the b» other of a bank manager in a neighbouring Colony. FOR 'FRISCO. The City of New York brings fifty cabin and twenty-eight steerage passengers for 'Frisca. SAILED. Auckland, April 30. The s.s. Hannah Mokau has sailed for Waitara. GOING TO GO. Sir G. Grey and the Hon. Mr. Sheehan will attend the Kopua meetingwhether invited or not. GOLD EXPORTED. The Bank of New Zealand exported 2,oooozsof gold by the Tararua. GOING. The Premier aud Native Minister leave for tho Waikato by the afternoon train. Some understanding has been come to about the native meeting, although it is not known that any formal invitation has been sent the Premier. DISPUTED TITLES. Gisborne, April 29. Mr. Reos has purchased two more large runs in order to settle the question of disputed title. REDISTRIBUTION OF SEATS. Wellington, April 29. Tho Post states, semi-officially, that the question of a redistribution of representation has been uuder the consideration of Ministers, and the priuciples of the measure to be introduced have been decided upon. It will be to redistribute the seats according to relative population as far as possible without any very extreme disturbance of the statuo quo. To bring about a gradual reform, a little more than they are strictly entitled to may at first be allowed to country districts, and a little les3 given to towns ; but gross irregularities will be rectified. It is probable that the pre.sent readjustment will only be temporary, and that a scheme may be introduced by which the periodical adjustment of representation to population may be removed from Parliament, and placed in the bands of a permanent non-political commission. It is also stated that the new Electoral Bill will only recognise two qualifica tions — the rating and the residental ones. LAND TAX. The collection of tho land tax will not be commeuced till the beginning of the new financial year. VISITORS. Mr. Thomas Fitzgerald, a Wellington pioneer and first Superintendent of Hawke's Bay, is re-visiting Wellington. Ho has for many years resided in Queensland, where he held office in several Ministries. NOT TRUE. A report that Mr. C. M. Crombie is appointed Deputy Land Tax Commissioner for Auckland is untruo.

BURGLAR CAUGHT. A man named James Harfc bnrglaril ously entered Mr. East's house, at Kaitoki, last night, bat, after a severe struarg-le, was captured by Mr. Hast, who, however, was severely bitten. FIRE. The Tenui Hotel, near Masterton, is reported to bo burned down. GOVERNOR'S VISIT SOUTH. Dunedin, April 29. The Governor is paying a visit to the Industrial School, Benevolent Institatution, and to Forbury. The Mayor and suite accompany him. His Excellency, Lady Robinson, Miss Robinson, aud suite have accepted an invitation of the Choral Society to be present at the final concert of the season. ABSCONDED. It is rumoured that a traveller for a large Dunedin brewery has absconded. Defalcations are said to be over £400. It is also stated that he has not gone out of the Colony. A traveller for the same firm is still serving his time in Dunedin Gaol. MAYOR RESIGNED. The Mayor of Dunedin has resigned because the Council re-appointed Mr. Genever as gas engineer. PRESENTATION. Mr. Bartleman, who leaves the Colouial Bank to eater into business, has been presented with a service of plate by the officers of the Bank throughout the Colony.
