To the Editor of the TARANAKI HERALD New Plymouth,'

August 21th, 1860. Sir, — My athntioii has been directed to an advertisement in the Nelson Examiner of the 15th August, headed " Taranaki Aid," using my authority for stating that the " sick and wounded of the Volun. teers and Militia here stand in great need of medical comfoits, &c." This is incorrect, and would imply a reflection on the treatment of the Volunteers and Militia in Hospital. Allow' me, through the medium of your journal, to state the facts of the case.

About three weekh ago, a gentleman, whose name I do not remember, c.illed upon me to say that "some benevolent people at Nelson were desirous of contributing medical comlorts to the Hospital." I informed him that the sick and wounded in the Hospital were amply supplied with all necessaries and medical comforts j that it would be a work of supererogation to send medical comforts for the Hospital j that my own ton, who was wounded in action at Waireka, had been on the Hospital books for four months, and had been provided with every necessary, medical comfort, and even luxury, he lequired ; and that I could procure the same advantages for every Volunteer and Militiaman under my care in the Hospital ; — but that if these kind people at Nelson chose to consign to me certain medical comforts, of which I gave him a list, I would undertake to distributo them, as I thought desirable, amongst the sick (not wounded) militia and their families, in quarters.
