SENSATIONAL CRASH
MOTOR RAGING ACCIDENT A sensational accident occurred soon after I lie start of the Grand Prix 2UO-mile motor care at Cowes, Victoria, on March 11. Skidding off Hie road, one of the contesting cars struck Mr 11. R. Wilkinson, aged 22 years, of East St. Kilda, serving his leg above the knee. Another spectator was sightly hurt, and the driver and mechanic of Hie car!) were injured. On IBs second lay, Mr A. Edwards driving a super-charged front-wheel drive machine, was passing tho pits near the stalling Mr Edwards was successful in point when the car began to swerve, checking the first skid, but immediately afterwards tho. machine appeared to got competcly out of control, and at a speed of nearly 7 0 miles an hour skidded to the left side of the road, struck a heap of loose metal, and leapt through the air for a distance of 25ft, The car, in turning over, struck Mr Wilkinson, who was walking to the fence. Mr Edwards and his mechanic were thrown clear, and the car came to rest upside down in a pool of water. Mr Wilkinson was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Mr Thomas Phayre. mocha nic of the car, asu was admitted (o hospital with injuries to Hie .head and broken ribs.
